A significant decrease in the rate of hair growth occurred in all patients treated with finasteride compared with baseline. The decrease in the percentage of patients with significant hair loss was greater in patients treated with finasteride compared with patients treated with placebo (27.7% vs 14.9%, P=0.001). The change in hair count was not statistically significant in patients treated with finasteride at a dose of 5 mg/day. However, the mean decrease in the percentage of patients with significant hair loss was greater in patients treated with finasteride compared with placebo (14.4% vs 9.6%, P=0.001). Our study demonstrated that finasteride is effective in reducing the rate of hair loss in patients with AGA.
